Residential Sales Representative

 

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to sell products for manufacturer to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, showroom, or customer's place of business by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Sells YKK AP America residential vinyl products and related products.
  • Responsible for building a customer base for repeat business in the sales territory, building long term relationships with them, and securing orders for YKK.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, internet websites, and other sources.
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talks with customers on sales floor, job sites or by phone.
  • Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes salable features.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms for orders obtained.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • Works with customers' sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date.
  • Tracks customers' stock levels.
  • Coordinates customer training.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
  • Performs light field service and repairs.
  • Diagnoses quality problems in the field.
  • Attends trade shows.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.

 

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in sales or business plus 0 - 1 year of experience in a related area; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Capable of problem diagnosis and small repairs
  • Understand competitions' products and business practices
  • Communication.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Proper lifting techniques required. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, an individual is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Special requirements i.e. computer equipment): On-going travel away from home, familiarity with Microsoft Suite, familiarity with industry estimation program(s), responsive to internal business practice.
