Warehouse Receiving Material Handling

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials within the warehouse and production areas, maintaining accurate inventory records, and upholding the company’s 5S, safety, and quality standards. The Material Handler operates various types of forklifts and material handling equipment to support daily production and shipping operations.

 

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and document daily forklift inspection checklists prior to equipment use.
  • Immediately report any forklift malfunctions, damage, or safety concerns to the lead person, supervisor and/or maintenance team.
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and quality policies and standards.
  • Ability to safely operate sit-down (forward fork and side-to-side) and stand-up (side-to-side) forklifts in compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Move units and materials from staging areas to designated production or shipping areas safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound shipments safely and efficiently.
  • Transfer units and materials between locations using the company system and RF scanners to maintain accurate inventory tracking.
  • Combine and consolidate carts or pallets to maximize warehouse space and ensure cart availability for production.
  • Return empty carts, pallets, and containers to assigned locations for reuse.
  • Report material shortages, product damage, or inventory discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and timely completion of required logs, checklists, and records.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new team members on proper material handling and safety procedures.
  • Support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by lead person, supervisors, or manager to support overall department goals.

       

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Preferred certification to operate sit-down (forward fork and side-to-side) and stand-up (side-to-side) forklifts.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse safety and equipment operation standards.
  • Must be proficient in basic computer applications and warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Basic math and reading comprehension skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify product differences, errors, or defects.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and quality-focused.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate sit-down (forward fork and side-to-side) and stand-up (side-to-side) forklifts in compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Familiarity with inventory control processes, including participation in cycle counts and physical inventory activities.
  • Experience supporting or participating in 5S and continuous improvement events within a manufacturing environment.
  • Adhere to 5S principles by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area always.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift during the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment for extended periods.
  • Must work effectively in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety policies.

 

At YKK AP America Inc., pay is only part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The hourly pay range for this position ranges from $17.06 to $19.04, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
