We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Vinyl Extrusion Manager to oversee and optimize the daily operations of our vinyl extrusion department in our Residential Window and Door manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of vinyl extrusion processes, including co-extrusions, lamination techniques, and be proficient in troubleshooting and completing minor machinery repairs. This role combines skills in leadership, technical expertise, and continuous improvement to ensure quality, efficiency, and uptime in a fast-paced production environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the vinyl extrusion department including personnel, machinery, and production processes.
  • Develop and execute production schedules to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
  • Ensure all extruded profiles meet product quality standards and dimensional tolerances.
  • Monitor material usage, scrap rates, and production yields; implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting, adjustments, and minor repairs on extrusion and lamination equipment.
  • Assist maintenance team in identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues.
  • Recommend and help implement preventive maintenance schedules and spare parts inventories..
  • Lead or assist with machine setup, calibration, and tooling changes for new products.
  • Oversee the proper operation of vinyl extruders including temperature controls, screw settings, and die conditions.
  • Supervise in-line lamination of vinyl profiles ensuring correct adhesive use, temperature, speed, and pressure.
  • Maintain knowledge of raw materials (PVC resin, additives, color concentrates, adhesives, films) and optimize their usage.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance to ensure adherence to specifications, certifications, and compliance standards (e.g., ASTM, AAMA).
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues.
  • Maintain Inventory control for raw materials, including monthly cycle counts for inventory levels
  • Oversee tool & die process for extrusion die maintenance.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise extrusion and lamination operators and technicians.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support team development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree within a technical field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in vinyl extrusion and lamination, preferably in the residential window and door or building materials industry and a minimum of 5 years of manager level experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience in managing or supervising a production team.
  • Hands-on knowledge of extrusion machinery, laminators, and auxiliary equipment (e.g., pullers, cutters, haul-offs).
  • Experience overseeing water chilling systems and bulk material silo systems.
  • Skilled in minor machine repair, basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience overseeing vinyl formulations, adhesives, and film application processes.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience working in various ERP and production tracking technology tools.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, and sit for long periods, and perform physical troubleshooting.
  • Required distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Proper lifting techniques required. 
  • Occasionally use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Travel required for this position is approximately 5%.

 

 Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing plant environment – exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
  • Required to wear appropriate safety protective equipment at the proper times and in the proper environments as outlined by safety program rules.
  • Constant noise level up to or greater than 85 decibels.
  • Frequently exposed to work in high, precarious places. 
  • Climate controlled facility with occasional work outside, with minimal exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
